Appointment Guidelines for OIC Faculty

For all coursework outside the area of Translation Studies (TRN), an individual will be deemed qualified to teach if he or she possesses

  1. a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution of higher learning or its foreign equivalent AND
  2. a master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited U.S. institution of higher learning or its foreign equivalent in the field he or she plans to teach or in a cognate field; OR
  3. a professional degree in the field he or she plans to teach.

Regarding foreign educational equivalency, the College will follow the guidelines established by the United States Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS), including the use of BCIS-approved services to determine the quality of degrees awarded by non-U.S. institutions.

The College will also consider for teaching positions well-qualified candidates with professional degrees. The following non-exhaustive list correlates selected professional degrees with areas in which the holder may be able to teach:

For all coursework in the area of Translation Studies (TRN), an individual will be deemed qualified to teach if he or she possesses

  1. a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution of higher learning or its foreign equivalent AND
  2. at least one year of post-graduate education or full-time work experience in translation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Full-time faculty may be tenure line or non-tenure line. Tenure line appointees will carry the rank of assistant professor or associate professor (without tenure). Tenured faculty will have the rank of associate professor (tenured) or professor. Non-tenure line full-time faculty will typically carry the rank of visiting assistant professor.

Part-time faculty will be non-tenure line and will carry the title lecturer.
